Have you ever wanted to make the best ribeye steak vs the best New York strip steak? Well, I have! We are steak lovers and we love a good steak!

While we have our favorites, we love all types of steak for their robust flavor. I have a couple of recipes at the end of this post that will make your taste buds go crazy!

I love a good bone-in ribeye for its rich flavor but my husband, Johnny Appleseed, loves the beefy flavor of a juicy steak that happens to be the New York strip cut of steak.

The main difference including their intense flavor profile, texture, and internal marbling are the cuts of steak. The key differences between steaks are what muscle group it comes from and what texture you are looking for!

Ultimately, the choice between a Ribeye and NY Strip steak comes down to personal preference.

If you are lucky enough to have a few great butcher shops or your local grocery store to shop at, you will discover that there are lots of steak cuts to choose from that come from the rib section of the cow.

There are also many premium steaks or good cuts of meat like filet mignon, porterhouse steak, T-bone steak, tomahawk steak, strip loin and club steak that can be a good option for a tender steak if the perfect steak is not available to you.

Whatever market steak you choose is the right steak! The best cuts are the cuts that you like and that you want to make at home instead of heading to the steak houses!

The best way to determine what you like is to fire up the gas grill or whatever your favorite heat source is and start grilling on medium-high heat! Everyone thinks they have to have a super hot grill! You do not!

Ribeye Steak

Ribeye steak, also known under different names such as a Spencer steak, Delmonico steak or a Cowboy steak, comes from the upper rib cage section of the cow and has a lot of marbling with fat, giving it a rich, buttery flavor and a tender texture.

A rib eye steak should not be a super fatty steak. There should be just enough fat that makes the steak taste good! If you are looking for tenderness, I have found that the scotch fillet is even more tender than the filet mignon. Both have a very smooth texture and very little connective tissue.

The fat content also helps keep the steak juicy and flavorful during cooking. Ribeye steaks are generally more expensive than New York Strip steaks due to the higher fat content.

New York Strip steak, also known as a Kansas City strip steak or a sirloin strip steak, comes from the short loin of the cow and is leaner than Ribeye steak or rib steak, with less fat marbling but has a thick band of fat.

A sirloin steak or top loin steak can be used a substitute for a strip steak if that is all you can find or if this is what you prefer!

This makes it slightly less tender than Ribeye. This type of steak also has a stronger, beefier flavor that some people prefer.

New York Strip steaks or the Kansas City steak are often considered a more affordable alternative to ribeye steaks, but they are still a high-quality cut of beef with a lower fat content.

Ultimately, the choice between Ribeye and New York Strip steak comes down to personal preference. If you prefer a steak with more marbling, high fat content and a buttery, tender texture, Ribeye is likely a better choice.

Be sure to select a ribeye that does not have too much fat.

On the other hand, if you prefer a leaner steak with a stronger, beefier flavor, you might prefer a New York Strip steak. Both steaks are delicious and can be cooked to perfection with the right techniques and seasonings.

Tips On How To Make a Delicious and Flavorful Ribeye Steak

1 Ribeye steak, about 1-2 inches thick

2 tbsp olive oil

2 tbsp unsalted butter

3 garlic cloves, minced

2 sprigs of fresh thyme

Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

Remove the steak from the refrigerator and let it sit at room temperature for about 30 minutes.

Preheat a cast-iron skillet or grill to high heat.

Rub olive oil over the steak to help it brown.
